National Law Week 2017 runs from Monday May 15 to Saturday May 21. Public libraries across New South Wales will be holding many events with the aim of helping their communities to understand everyday areas of law. The theme for this year is ‘Law and Justice in your Community’.
The State Library of NSW manages the Find Legal Answers service which helps public libraries to provide legal information for their communities through print resources and the Find Legal Answers website. Collections are kept up-to-date and training provided for public library staff to know how to find answers to commonly asked questions about the law.
A successful collaboration between public libraries and Legal Aid NSW will see workshops offered again this year in public libraries. Legal Aid solicitors will present sessions on Cyber Safety for Older People and Traffic Law at libraries from Bega to Blayney, Wauchope to Wollongong, Taree to Tenterfield and beyond.
