Funded by the NSW Government, the Digital Excellence Program provides unprecedented, world-wide access to our State and nation’s most iconic and historically significant documents and objects.
The Digital Excellence Program will help the Library to digitise its most iconic, at risk and highly valued collections as well as to undertake a complete renewal of the Library’s underlying infrastructure and systems. $40.2 million in funding will provide the initial five years of a 10-year digitisation program which will transform the Library from one of Australia’s most respected and valued libraries to a library internationally renowned for digital excellence.
According to the NSW State Librarian & Chief Executive:
"This welcome funding will ensure the State Library becomes globally recognised as a world leading library and centre of digital excellence by making its amazing collections available to all."
The Library's digitisation strategy will help cement the Library's status as a world leading library and centre for digital excellence. Digital material will be created and preserved on a scale never before seen in Australia.
Greater access for everyone
This essential project will improve discoverability on the Library's website and across the Internet, making it even easier for schools, universities, family historians, researchers and many others to find and use the Library's unique materials.
The new website was launched in February 2016 and a new integrated collection management system in May 2016.
