Find Legal Answers training

The Find Legal Answers training program equips staff with a knowledge of legal information resources and strategies to provide information about the law.

The Find Legal Answers training program has been developed for staff in NSW public libraries who provide legal information to the public. It equips staff with a knowledge of legal information resources and strategies to provide information - not opinion - about the law. It comprises the Legal Information Workshop supplemented by the annual Find Legal Answers Awareness training.

The Legal Information Workshop comprises two parts - the Legal Information Workshop and the Legal Information Workshop advanced modules on legislation and case law. 

The Legal Information Workshop provides introductory training for all public library staff. It describes the LIAC network and information framework, focuses on the resources that all libraries including branch libraries can use to deliver a legal information service, and demonstrates the Find Legal Answers Pathway to the Law.  It includes case studies and exercises on the Find Legal Answers Tool Kit and website. The training takes two to three hours to complete.

The Legal Information Workshop advanced modules on legislation and case law build on the Legal Information Workshop. They focus on accessing legislation and cases on the internet. Staff may choose to do one or both of these modules but should complete the Legal Information Workshop first. Each module takes one hour to complete.

This training is for all public library staff and should be delivered once a year. Its purpose is to re-energise staff by updating their knowledge about resources and provide overviews of new initiatives. 

The training takes approximately one hour and includes:

  • the Find Legal Answers Tool Kit, with exercises on new Tool Kit titles
  • Hot Topics
  • the Find Legal Answers website, including exercises
