Your family album

Student activities

Task no. 1

Old Photo Albums

Most families have old photo albums, in various states of disrepair, housing the memories of older family members – parents, grandparents, or even great-grandparents. Find a photograph from your own family photo albums – perhaps from when your parents or grandparents were children. Find the most unusual, awkward or funny photograph. Write a set of 3-5 questions you have about the photograph.

Task no. 2

Interviewing your family

Conduct at least one interview with a family member – perhaps someone who features in the photograph – a parent, grandparent, an aunt or uncle. Ask the questions that you developed in Task 1, and take notes, or record the interview using a device. Some further questions may come up during the interview – ask those too!

Task no. 3

Presenting your photograph

Present your family photograph to the class. If possible, scan or digitise your photograph so that it can be projected during the presentation. Tell your classmates the backstory that goes with your family photograph.
